Well Test Truck Channels: Verify Scaling and Units

A connected sensor can still produce an incorrectly interpreted record. Include scaling and unit verification in the purchase, not only instrument communication.

Identify the source quantity and accepted output

For each selected channel, state the instrument quantity, source range and required reporting units. Have the responsible team identify any reference conditions needed for interpretation. A channel name such as pressure or rate is incomplete when the source and output definitions are unclear. Ask the bidder to respond to an actual quantity schedule rather than supply a generic screen that happens to display the desired unit label.

Make configuration values traceable

Request the relevant scaling definitions and identify who enters, reviews and retains them for the supplied acquisition arrangement. The settings should relate to the selected instrument and its documented output. Do not accept an unexplained configuration copied from another truck as evidence for the current assembly. Where the sensor or range is provisional, retain the dependency so final values are reviewed before the accepted output is demonstrated.

Keep conversions visible in the record

Ask which values are directly acquired and which are converted by the recorder or reporting software. Identify relevant inputs and assumptions, with the original record preserved where agreed. A correctly labeled output still needs an explained relationship to its source. Procurement should establish that evidence without inventing a conversion formula for every fluid or measurement task, especially where an external process supplier provides reference-condition information.

Verify more than one presentation layer

Include appropriate checks of the on-screen value, exported data and report representation for the actual configuration. A correct display does not prove that a downstream file uses the same units or quantity definition. Request a representative deliverable that can be opened through the agreed software path. Keep changes or limitations explicit rather than allowing a visually tidy report to conceal a different underlying value or interpretation.

Control later sensor and software changes

Agree how a replaced instrument, changed range or revised reporting configuration triggers the necessary review. Retain the accepted settings with the equipment identity and relevant verification record. The purpose is not to lock every future campaign to one instrument, but to preserve an authorized way to reassess the supported result. A truck accepted with one scaling schedule should not be represented as automatically configured for every later connected tool.

Compare the evidence behind apparently similar displays

Have bidders show how the actual selected quantity moves through acquisition, conversion and export, with units and configuration ownership identified at each relevant boundary. A simple documented arrangement can be more useful than an elaborate interface with hidden setup dependencies. Keep original observations and derived values distinguishable, and ask the responsible reviewer to assess suitability for the intended test decision. The accepted order should deliver usable records without treating decimal places, unit labels or a successful connection as proof that every measurement transformation is correct.

Suggested wording for the quotation request

Provide a channel scaling and unit schedule for the proposed well test truck using the attached instruments and reporting requirements. Identify source ranges, conversion functions, relevant inputs and configuration ownership. Demonstrate the agreed screen, export and report relationships, preserving original values as specified. State review requirements for instrument or software changes and keep unresolved quantities visible before accepting the final acquisition setup.

Select the well test truck against the accepted instrument program and required measurement outputs. Identify the actual tools, line arrangement, depth and load basis, acquired channels and supported working environment. Keep deployment equipment, recording functions, external pressure control and surface flow-test systems under explicit supply boundaries. A calibration certificate supports an identified measurement, not universal truck accuracy or an unrestricted test result. Ask for the evidence and limitations that matter to the intended decision. Retain the selected configuration, interface documents and verification records with the purchase; actual wellsite work requires competent personnel and approved procedures.

For the wider equipment scope, consult the Well Test Truck Data: Synchronizing Instrument Records. Use the RFQ checklist to collect the supporting documents before requesting a configuration-specific quotation.

Buyer questions

Can the display be correct while an export is misinterpreted?

Yes. Verify the agreed output path and quantity definitions as well as the screen.

Should a sensor range change trigger configuration review?

Yes where it affects scaling, interpretation or supporting verification evidence.
