Build an instrument-to-input schedule
List each selected instrument, the quantity it supplies and the documented output interface. Distinguish actual models from preliminary choices still requiring confirmation. A recorder advertised with many channels may not support the required mix of signals. Give bidders one controlled schedule so they can identify suitable inputs and external interface equipment rather than assume that every instrument called digital can communicate with any available truck recorder.
Ask what analog acquisition actually includes
Where analog signals are proposed, request the relevant input, scaling, conditioning and power arrangements for the identified instruments. A matching connector does not establish the complete interface. Ask which functions are supplied and what information supports their contribution to the reported measurement. Keep external transmitters and site wiring responsibilities clear, without prescribing field wiring methods or assuming that a sensor calibration automatically covers every acquisition component.
Resolve digital meaning as well as physical connection
For a digital source, identify the applicable device information, communication method and data definitions the provider needs to support the interface. A familiar port type alone does not prove that quantity definitions, units or status flags are understood correctly. Require an actual compatibility response for the selected instrument and recorder versions rather than a blanket statement that standard digital interfaces guarantee unrestricted equipment interchangeability.

Compare configured functions and ownership
Ask who prepares and approves channel settings, supplies required interface modules and retains configuration access after delivery. A working factory arrangement can still depend on software rights or undocumented vendor setup. Identify those dependencies in the commercial offer. The buyer needs an accepted route for later supported changes, not an unrestricted promise that any technician can connect another instrument without relevant manufacturer information or review.
Demonstrate the identified path
Include appropriate checks using selected instruments or clearly identified simulated inputs. Verify quantity, units, scaling and relevant status handling in the actual output, not only a green connection indicator. State what the demonstration establishes and which external equipment remains untested. Retain the final interface schedule so an accepted recorder package is not later described as compatible with every analog and digital source available in the field.
Compare usable inputs, not a nominal channel total
Require each offer to show how the same instrument schedule is supported, including adapters, conditioning, power and software dependencies. Separate supplied capability from future options and identify any substitution that changes the measurement basis. The purchase should deliver an understandable, verifiable path from the selected source to the recorded quantity. It should not convert an available port or an impressive channel count into a guarantee of tool compatibility, measurement accuracy or external process-control integration that was never included in the accepted scope.
Put these items side by side in the bid review
| Purchase item | Question to resolve | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Source | What does each instrument actually output? | Model-specific interface schedule |
| Path | Which modules and settings are supplied? | Accepted signal and power arrangement |
| Evidence | Is the quantity recorded correctly? | Configuration-specific interface demonstration |
Suggested wording for the quotation request
Compare analog and digital acquisition options for the attached well test truck instrument schedule. Identify supported source models, required modules, conditioning, power and configuration access. Explain quantity definitions, units and relevant status handling in exported records. Include the proposed interface demonstration and list external responsibilities or unresolved device information, with usable supported channels distinguished from optional or merely available recorder ports.
Select the well test truck against the accepted instrument program and required measurement outputs. Identify the actual tools, line arrangement, depth and load basis, acquired channels and supported working environment. Keep deployment equipment, recording functions, external pressure control and surface flow-test systems under explicit supply boundaries. A calibration certificate supports an identified measurement, not universal truck accuracy or an unrestricted test result. Ask for the evidence and limitations that matter to the intended decision. Retain the selected configuration, interface documents and verification records with the purchase; actual wellsite work requires competent personnel and approved procedures.

Buyer questions
Does a matching connector prove signal compatibility?
No. The complete electrical, communication and quantity definitions need review.
Does a digital connection automatically validate the measurement?
No. Verify the interpreted quantity and the relevant measurement evidence separately.
