Identify the required pressure quantity
Have the responsible measurement team state whether each observation needs absolute, gauge or another explicitly defined pressure quantity. Associate the requirement with its measurement point and intended use. The truck supplier should respond to that schedule rather than label every channel simply pressure. A familiar unit does not identify the reference basis, and similar numerical readings do not prove that the underlying quantities are equivalent.
Ask which sensor basis is actually supplied
Require instrument models and relevant output definitions for the proposed channels. A recorder label does not change the physical quantity produced by a sensor. If the offered arrangement differs from the enquiry, request an identified technical alternative. Keep the decision connected to the selected tool or transmitter and its supporting records so an attractive display configuration is not mistaken for evidence of the actual sensing reference.
Make any conversion an explicit function
Where conversion is required, ask the responsible provider to identify its inputs, assumptions and ownership. Distinguish an original measured value from a derived result and retain the original record where agreed. An unstated atmospheric or other reference value should not become a hidden constant in an exported dataset. Procurement can define the evidence and responsibility without prescribing a universal correction for every destination or operating condition.

Carry the distinction through files and reports
Agree clear channel names, units, reference fields and metadata for the exported record. Include how derived values are identified and how the software communicates missing reference information. A chart title alone may not preserve the basis when data moves between applications. Ask for a representative output that the intended reviewer can interpret without relying on informal explanations from the original acquisition operator.
Check the accepted configuration with known evidence
Include relevant quantity and label checks in the acquisition verification scope. Have the supplier explain what the demonstration establishes and which instrument or external reference remains outside it. A communication test can confirm data transfer without validating a pressure conversion. Retain the final configuration and any changed input basis so later software or sensor substitutions do not silently alter the meaning of a channel used in the test report.
Do not resolve a reference mismatch by hiding the difference
When two records disagree, preserve their original quantity definitions and ask the responsible team to reconcile the bases. The goal is a defensible interpretation, not a cosmetically aligned graph. Compare supplier offers on their ability to identify measured and calculated quantities, preserve necessary context and deliver usable records. Keep the technical and contractual scope of any conversion explicit. This avoids treating a generic pressure display as a complete measurement specification or assuming that one reference convention is suitable for every downhole and surface observation in a well evaluation program.
Put these items side by side in the bid review
| Purchase item | Question to resolve | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Quantity | Which pressure reference is required? | Accepted channel definition |
| Conversion | What is calculated and from which inputs? | Documented provider function |
| Output | Does the exported label retain the basis? | Representative record and metadata |
Suggested wording for the quotation request
Specify the pressure reference for each proposed well test truck channel and identify the actual sensor output basis. List any conversion function, required inputs, assumptions and responsible provider. Deliver original and derived records as agreed, with clear labels and reference metadata. Include representative export and verification evidence so the final dataset preserves the intended quantity rather than relying on an unexplained recorder label.
Select the well test truck against the accepted instrument program and required measurement outputs. Identify the actual tools, line arrangement, depth and load basis, acquired channels and supported working environment. Keep deployment equipment, recording functions, external pressure control and surface flow-test systems under explicit supply boundaries. A calibration certificate supports an identified measurement, not universal truck accuracy or an unrestricted test result. Ask for the evidence and limitations that matter to the intended decision. Retain the selected configuration, interface documents and verification records with the purchase; actual wellsite work requires competent personnel and approved procedures.
For the wider equipment scope, consult the Well Test Truck Data: Synchronizing Instrument Records. Use the RFQ checklist to collect the supporting documents before requesting a configuration-specific quotation.
Buyer questions
Does a pressure unit identify absolute versus gauge basis?
No. State the measured quantity and reference separately.
Can renaming a channel convert the physical measurement?
No. A conversion needs an identified technical basis and supporting inputs.
